Anniversary celebrations for AFC Liverpool

AFC Liverpool supporters and officials are preparing to celebrate the club's 10th anniversary this weekend.

Back in February 2008, a conversation between friends in the Philharmonic Pub on Hope Street laid the early foundations for creating a Football Club run by supporters for supporters.

In the months that followed AFC Liverpool was born and the vision of providing affordable football was realised with the Club finding a home at Prescot Cables and in the North West Counties First Division.

Six months later, on August 9th 2008, AFC Liverpool beat Darwen 5-0 in the Club’s first competitive game in its history.

10 years later AFC Liverpool again find themselves in the First Division but Chairman Chris Stirrup feels the Club is in the best possible position off the pitch to succeed on it.

“The Club is prepared for what’s to come this season, in the next 10 years and also beyond that. We are an established Club now and if the first 10 years were a learning curve, the next 10 will be using that knowledge and experience to advance the Club.”

On the coming season Chris said: “Well we’re no longer the new kids, we’re an established Hallmark Security League Club and arguably now one of the ‘biggest’ Club in the First Division.

“That’s new for us and will present new challenges, we certainly feel we’re a side that the other teams will want the scalp of.”

The Chairman also hinted at potential new developments coming in the near future.

“We’re always looking at new ways to move forward and have worked over the last year to create lasting partnerships that will benefit the Club, the supporters and members well into the future.

“Good progress is also being made on a project that has the potential to completely transform AFC Liverpool and will enable us to keep growing.”
