Matthew Bryan of Bacup Borough is the First Division Player of the Year for 2017/18 after a superb season for Brent Peters men.
The popular forward, who has been with Bacup since October 2012 and who also manages the club's Under 9's side, played 42 times this season for Bacup, missing just three games all season, all of which they lost. In games Matthew played, Bacup won 13, drew 4 and lost 25, scoring 65 and conceding 100.
Of those 65 goals Bacup scored when Matthew played, Matthew himself scored 28 of them, with only two players in the First Division scoring more this season. This gives Matthew a goal ratio of 1.5 which is the second best in the division.
One key aspect when choosing the Player of the Year is looking at the number of Man of the Match awards that have been given by the opposition in games this season. In this category, Matthew leads the way by some distance, picking up 20 Man of the Match awards from the 39 league games that he played. Incredibly he was awarded Man of the Match by the opposition in 14 of Bacup's last 16 games.
Matthew's disciplinary record was OK this season, picking up six yellow cards and no red cards in the 42 games that he played.
