West Didsbury & Chorlton's Jack Sergeant played the full 90 minutes for Gibraltar in their 1-0 win over Latvia in a friendly international this afternoon.
Playing at full back, Jack was part of a Gibraltar team that achieved only their second win at full international level since becoming full members of UEFA in 2013, thanks to a goal from Notts County's Liam Walker two minutes from time .
It was a game of few clear cut chances, played on a blustery afternoon at Gibraltar's Victoria Stadium, which was hosting the home side in an international game for the first time in two years. On that occasion Latvia were also the visitors, running out 5-0 winners.
Jack had a steady game at the back for his national side, although he needed treatment for an injury after a robust challenge early in second half, leading to a stretcher being produced, but after a couple of minutes he returned to the action.
He was also yellow carded for a tackle inside the Latvian half with 20 minutes to go.
The winning goal arrived two minutes from time, direct from a free kick 30 yards out, and Liam Walker's shot took a deflection off the Latvian defensive wall before ending up in the back of the bet to seal victory for the home side.
Gibraltar's only other international victory was a 1-0 win over Malta in 2014, and this afternoon's result is only the fourth time they have kept a clean sheet in a full international.
