By Rob McKay

This Saturday, West Didsbury & Chorlton’s Juniors are taking an active role in match day duties when West host Abbey Hey in a Premier Division fixture at Brookburn Road.

The boys and girls from the club's junior section will be taking over from the regular match day volunteers as they serve teas and coffees, greet supporters at the gate and will be involved in the exchange of the teamsheets.

From 2 pm, fans arriving will be greeted by West’s Juniors at the gate, whilst others will be in charge of stalls selling sweets and pop, as well as West scarves and hats.

In addition, at kick off there will be a team of match day mascots as well as taking part as ball boys during the game. There will be a half time penalty shoot-out and following the match the juniors will take part in a Q & A session with first team manager Steve Settle.

West’s junior section offers inclusive footballing opportunities for boys and girls at ages from five through to 16. The teams, aged from under-9s through to under-16s, play on Hardy Farm and Chorlton Park on Saturday and Sunday mornings in the Timperley & District Junior Football League. In addition the club runs soccer skills clubs from under-5s through under-8s.

West’s juniors have been offering junior football in South Manchester for over 40 years previously played under the name of Oswald Road JFC.  Anyone requiring more information in the club's junior section should email junior club secretary Joe Traynor on: joetraynor2003@yahoo.com

Club Chairman Glyn Meacher said: “Junior Chairman Tim Manley has spent two years helping the junior section to integrate with the club, and create a pathway for inclusive football of all ages throughout the club.”
