Buildbase FA Vase Fifth Round Draw

The draw for the Fifth Round of the Buildbase FA Vase has been made.

After their outstanding 4-1 win at Shildon on Saturday, Atherton Collieries will travel to Cleethorpes Town in the Fifth Round, which is the last sixteen of the competition.

Cleethorpes' success is pretty recent. Formed in 1998 as Lincolnshire Soccer School, the club only added a senior team in 2003 in the Lincolshire League. Spells in the Central Midlands League Premier Division and Humber Premier League followed before the club changed its name to Cleethorpes Town in 2008.

A move back to the Lincolnshire League followed before the club won that league in 2011/12, losing just once and scoring 130 goals. That title win saw them promoted to the Northern Counties East League (NCEL) and success has remained since.

A fourth place finish that first season was followed by the First Division championship in 2013/14 and promtion to the NCEL Premier Division. They quickly became one of the leading clubs, and have finished fourth and third in the last two seasons plus won the League Cup last season.

This season they sit top of the NCEL Premier Division, nine points clear of second placed Pickering Town. This is only their fourth season in the FA Vase but they have equalled the Fifth Round placing that they achieved last season. In the Third Round they came from behind with a late, late show to defeat Bootle 2-1 courtesy of two goals in the last five minutes, which is their only previous meeting with one of our clubs.

The tie will be played on Saturday 28th January 2017, with a place in the Quarter Finals awaiting the winners.
