Litherland REMYCA are in a busy period of the club's history at the moment, with the clubs profile riding high in the local community and results on the pitch going well, the club have continued to build and have teamed up with ex-Royal Marine, Andy Grant who is a World Record Holding local athlete, and War Veteran Amputee.

Andy has agreed to become a Club Ambassador for the Sefton based club, he holds the World Record as the fastest single leg amputee to run 10km and is aiming to help the club boost it's work in the local community and increase awareness of what it offers to players from age six up to open age.

Since being medically discharged from the Marine's, Andy has pursued a career as a public speaker - hoping to inspire people to achieve more in life. He has also used sport as a vehicle to rebuild his own life, and has developed into an elite athlete despite his disability.

Andy said, "Whilst out in Afghanistan, I was caught in an IED explosion which resulted in losing my right leg below the knee. I have faced numerous challenges and now wish to use my experiences to the benefit of others. I know a few lads at REMYCA, having grown up in the Bootle area, and have an affinity with their vision to develop as a community club.

"I have met with club officals and been impressed by their plans to take the club forward. They now need a club base and a facility which meets the requirements of non league football, but can also be available to the wider community to attract more young people into sport. It is a great project and I am happy to offer my support in whatever capacity."

Speaking this week, Club Chairman Don Rimmer stated "We are delighted Andy has agreed to become a club ambassador. His achievements in life are inspirational and will encourage others to succeed. He is a good fit for our club, lives locally and has a strong desire to give back to the community. As we commence the process of becoming A Community Owned Club, Andy will speak at a public meeting to be held at St Benet's Parochial Club, Netherton on Sunday 27th November at 2pm. All are welcome to attend."
