West Podcast Feature
Sun 17th July 2016 | West Didsbury & Chorlton | By Ian Templeman
West Didsbury & Chorlton have been featured in a podcast put together as part of a project in Cambridge set up to celebrate football's first set of formalised rules.
In 1848 a group of students from Cambridge University wrote a set of 11 rules which everyone could agree upon. Nailed to the trees surrounding Parker’s Piece, this was the first time that football as we know it had any formalised laws.
A project has been set up which intends to celebrate how football is played and enjoyed in every part of the world, and will acknowledge the part played by Parker’s Piece in Cambridge in the story of the birth of this game.
On Tuesday evening, as they hosted FC United of Manchester in a memorial game in honour of former Secretary Rob Turley, West were joined by the boys from Cambridge Rules1848 Podcast as they spoke to several members of the clubs committee and supporters about their involvement at West and what makes the club special to them.
Featured in the piece are Club Secretary Rob McKay, Committee Member James Doxford, volunteers Matthew Britton and Pete Jones as well as supporters Peter Broadhead and Stephie Parker.
The Podcast is 20 minutes in length and you can listen by clicking here.
