Town Youngsters In Euro Limelight

Two St Helens Town youngsters have taken their place on the world football stage, as part of Nike’s latest advert released at the start of Euro 2016
Joe Stanley (U18s) and Luke Butterworth (U21s) can be seen playing the parts of the training squad in both the short television advert and the longer on-line version of the Nike Football commercial: Cristiano Ronaldo’s The Switch
Back in January Joe and Lee, without the knowledge of each other, attended auditions in Stockport looking for footballers to take part in the filming of major television commercial.
The auditions had been heavily advertised in Sheffield, Manchester and online and a huge response was received with thousands of applications.
The lads auditioned alongside hundreds of players aged 16-24 years old being filmed dribbling, shooting and celebrating in front of casting directors. It was a waiting game following the auditions but a few weeks later contact was made with a request for boot size, height, weight, etc. and eventually it was confirmed they had been cast!
Filming took place over a ten day period during February 2016 across locations in Sheffield and Halifax.
Joe, who gained himself the nickname of ‘Scholesy’ during the shoot said, ‘It was a really fantastic opportunity to combine my love for acting and football. I met lots of great people and even got to attend the wrap party.’
Lee picked up a speaking part in the production as one of the players setting up a defensive wall he is heard saying ‘Who do you think you are, Cristiano Ronaldo?’
